LUXURY ITEMS

Interdisciplinary exploration of the future possibilities of luxury in the circular economy

This lab focuses on interdisciplinary research to explore recent niche production and consumption practises where materials are taken from luxury objects, often at the end of their lifespan, to reassemble other luxury objects by combining parts from recycled materials. This lab invites scientists, entrepreneurs, local communities and the general public to reflect on, but not limited to:

  • how these practises will impact the future of luxury in different sectors, e.g. jewellery, collectibles.
  • How we can reconstruct the development of a focus on ethical consumption within a circular logic based on second-hand goods.
  • How the secondary recovery of materials from discarded items can reconfigure ethical and sustainable business practises.
  • How new ethical and sustainable consumer behaviour can result from the choice of luxury objects made from materials derived from discarded items.
