THE IMAGINARY OF SECONDARY EXTRACTIVISM IN URBAN AND RURAL CONTEXTS

The extraction of natural resources has characterised economies, societies and landscapes for centuries, and has given rise to complex and multi-layered social imaginaries, practises of domination and exploitation, and ambivalent relationships with the natural and urban environment. In an era characterised by environmental crises, climate change, energy transition and the need for sustainable models, in this lab we want to explore the social imaginaries that are formed in relation to the new possibilities of extracting raw materials in both urban and more rural contexts. The aim is therefore to understand how such practises can generate new ecological imaginaries. Reflections may include theoretical contributions, case studies, historical analyses, ethnographic research and interdisciplinary considerations.
